Asset Owner Panel at MENA Investment Congress

FEBRUARY 20, 2019

at Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi, Al Maryah Island, UAE

Overview

Throughout, the panel kept the differences between MENA and the developed markets in mind, and included some audience participation where possible. Additional requests included:

  • Headwinds remain strong, how are asset managers likely to adjust their investment strategies or asset allocation models for the next 1-2 years? Differences between US/EU/Asia and MENA regions?
  • To what extent have regulations affected the way AMs run and manage their portfolios, has the pendulum swung back to a more favourable position? (this remains a challenge in MENA)
  • Can AM’s capitalise on the evolution of emerging technologies like automation and AI, to what extent might this affect the role of an AM in the near term? Is the effect, “disruptive” or complimentary?
  • How are AMs preparing for the estimated increase in global AUM from about USD95 trillion to over an estimated USD145 trillion by 2025?
