Steve is Head of Portfolio Risk for Washington Crossing Advisors.  In this role he collaborates with advisors to help design and explain portfolio solutions that meet specific needs of end clients. He focuses on equity, fixed income, and multi-asset portfolios with private client, high net worth, and institutional investors. Steve focuses on new and existing client relationships to increase sales among the growing product lines. He is also the Head of Risk Management with a particular focus on quantitative analysis, portfolio construction, data analytics and proprietary multifactor models.

Prior to joining WCA, Steve was an Investment Consultant providing advice to the investment community. His focus was on compliance with investment performance standards and the application of data science and operations research methods to manager search and selection, peer group construction, multi-asset/multi-manager portfolio construction and risk management.

Before serving as an Investment Consultant, Steve was Head of Quantitative Risk for Investment Management Research in the Investment Solutions Area of UBS Financial Services Inc. He was responsible for developing an investment risk infrastructure and enhancing portfolio construction and analysis across multiple investment platforms. Steve was also Asset Manager for US Trust/Bank of America and Senior Analyst and Investment Consultant for New York Life Investment Management LLC.

Steve has done a great deal of work in practical applications of machine learning, investment skill detection, manager search and selection, due diligence, risk budgeting, risk and return decomposition and attribution, alternative investments and benchmark fit.

He was an original and longstanding member of the Education Committee of the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), which awards the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation. Steve’s function was to oversee the Investment Risk Management sleeve of the curriculum. He is an advisory board member, contributor and top reviewer for The Journal of Performance Measurement. He has been a frequent speaker at industry conferences and is a former Director at CFA Society NY where he has taught courses for CFA exam preparation. Steve is currently Co-Chair  of the Performance & Risk Analytics Group at CFA Society NY. He has served as a subject matter expert on stress testing for regulatory purposes and a manuscript reviewer for books on principal components analysis and applied financial statistics. Steve is also a former advisory board member and contributor to the Bank Asset/Liability Management newsletter. He holds series 7 and series 63 licenses.
