DESCRIPTION:OverviewThe CFA Society New York Book Club® meets every other month and is designed to be an informal group discussion on a multitude of investment related topics. The author is not present as this is simply a discussion on the book of the month to help members further digest the material and meet other like-minded CFA Society NY members. We will generally have 2-3 books planned in advance so members can pick and choose which ones they are interested in reading prior to the meeting. Overall\, a way to build on our investment knowledge and meet other members. \nTitle: Radical Candor: Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity \nAuthor: Kim Scott

SUMMARY:Are Prospects for Private Equity and Venture Capital Markets Improving?
DESCRIPTION:OverviewSophisticated Institutional Investors have looked to achieve returns from private equity investing that are 5% per annum or more above public equity market returns\, and even higher for venture capital returns\, while allocating 20% to 40% of capital into private strategies.  The success of these investments is crucial to the success of these investors in meeting pension obligations and the missions of many nonprofit organizations.   \nHowever\, private equity and venture capital returns have disappointed over the last few years\, while having a greatly diminished pace of cash distributions.  Some institutional investors have reduced their commitments to new funds\, and many fundraising rounds have been smaller and longer to complete. Conversely\, niche areas like AI – related venture capital have been hotly subscribed\, while some lower middle market buyout managers have thrived.  \nHas the outlook for investing in private equity and venture capital fundamentally changed?    \nAgenda5:30 PM | REGISTRATION \n\n6:00 PM | WELCOMING REMARKS \n\n6:05 PM | PANEL DISCUSSION \nModerator \nJodie Gunzberg\, CFA\, Managing Partner\, InFi Strategies \nPanelists \nCarolyn Patton\, CFA\, Head of Private Market Client Solutions\, TIFF Investment Management \nBen Challgren\, Principal\, Top Tier Capital \nLara Druyan\, General Partner\, Private Liquidity Partners \n\n7:05 PM | Q&A \n\n7:25 PM | CLOSING REMARKS \n\n7:30 PM | NETWORKING RECEPTION

SUMMARY:CFA Society New York Lunch & Learn Series
DESCRIPTION:OverviewSuccinctly articulating an investment thesis is a critical skill for portfolio managers\, analysts\, product specialists\, and other CFA charterholders. But for many investment professionals\, turning their ideas into white papers\, blogs\, client letters\, or even emails can be an inefficient\, time-consuming\, or frustrating exercise.   \nIn this interactive session\, veteran financial writer Scott Wentworth will explain how investment professionals can improve their writing skills by doing something that already comes naturally to them: following a process. Scott will explain the steps of the process that he and other professional writers use and discuss how “non-writers” can apply these principles to whatever forms of writing they encounter in their jobs.   \nThis event will be open to non-members and students! Members are encouraged to bring a guest from outside the society. This event will be open to non-members and students!
