SUMMARY:Centennial Speaker Series: Ted Seides on Capital Allocators- How the World’s Elite Money Managers Lead and Invest
DESCRIPTION:OverviewA co-sponsored event\, presented by CFA Society New York\, the Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis\, and the Museum of American Finance. \nThe chief endowment officers at foundations\, family offices\, pension funds\, and sovereign wealth funds are the leaders in the world of finance. How do they make investment decisions on everything from hiring managers to portfolio construction? \nJoin us for an afternoon webinar between author Ted Seides as he discusses his new book\, Capital Allocators\, with Jonathan Brolin\, founder and managing partner of Edenbrook Capital LLC\, on this opaque corner of the investment landscape. \nCopies of Capital Allocators will be raffled off to attendees. \nAgenda12:00 PM | WELCOME REMARKS \n\nPaul Johnson\, Finance Professor; Founding Partner\, Investment Manager\, Nicusa Capital Partners \n\n\n12:05 PM | SPEAKER INTRODUCTION \n\nJonathan Brolin\, Founder\, Managing Partner\, Edenbrook Capital LLC \n\n\n12:08 PM | DISCUSSION \n\nTed Seides\, Author\, Capital Allocators: How the World’s Elite Money Managers Lead and Invest \n\n\n12:45 PM | AUDIENCE Q&A \n\n6:30 PM | CLOSING REMARKS \n\nPaul Johnson\, Finance Professor; Founding Partner\, Investment Manager\, Nicusa Capital Partners \n\nCo- Sponsored By

SUMMARY:Centennial Speaker Series: Michael Mauboussin on Expectations Investing - Reading Stock Prices for Better Returns
DESCRIPTION:OverviewThis event is co-sponsored with the CFA Society New York\, the Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis\, and the Museum of American Finance. \nMost investment books try to assess the attractiveness of a stock price by estimating the value of the company. Expectations Investing\, by Michael Mauboussin and Alfred Rappaport\, provides a powerful and insightful alternative to identifying gaps between price and value. The authors suggest that an investor start with a known quantity\, the stock price\, and ask what it implies for future financial results. After showing how to read expectations\, they provide a guide to rigorous strategic and financial analysis to help investors assess the likelihood of revisions to these expectations. \nInvestors who read this book will be able to evaluate stocks of companies in any sector or geography more effectively than those who use the standard approaches of most investors. This revised and updated edition reflects the many changes in accounting and the business landscape since the book was first published\, and provides a wealth of new examples and case studies. \nCopies of Expectations Investing will be raffled off to attendees. \nAgenda12:00 PM | WELCOME REMARKS \n\nSris Chatterjee\, Chair\, Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis \n\n\n12:03 PM | SPEAKER INTRODUCTIONS \n\nDavid Cowen\, President\, Chief Executive Officer\, Museum of American Finance \n\n\n12:08 PM | PRESENTATION \n\nMichael Mauboussin\, Author\, Expectations Investing: Reading Stock Prices for Better Returns \n\n\n12:45 PM |  AUDIENCE Q&A \n\n1:00 PM | CLOSING REMARKS \n\nDavid Cowen\, President\, Chief Executive Officer\, Museum of American Finance \n\nAdditional DetailsEvent Sponsors

SUMMARY:Quantitative Investing Group Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Discussion Topic: Systematic Pricing and Trading of Municipal Bonds \nGuest Speaker: Sudar Purushothaman\, Foundation Credit \nOverviewWe propose a systematic approach for pricing and trading municipal bonds\, leveraging the feature-rich information available at the individual bond level. Based on the proposed pricing framework\, they estimate several models using ridge regression and Kalman filtering. In their empirical work\, they show that the models compare favorably in pricing accuracy to those available in the literature. Additionally\, the models are able to quickly adapt to changing market conditions. Incorporating the pricing models into relative value trading strategies\, the authors demonstrate that the resulting portfolios generate significant excess returns and positive alpha relative to the Vanguard Long-Term Tax-Exempt Fund (VWLTX)\, one of the largest mutual funds in the municipal space. \nThis is joint work with Petter N. Kolm\, NYU Courant.\n\nThe full article is available here → \nQuantitative Investing Group×Quantitative Investing Group\nThe Quantitative Investing Group brings together professionals seeking to incorporate cutting edge quantitative investment techniques and alternative data sets in their investing and risk processes. Members include (but are not limited to) discretionary and systematic portfolio managers\, risk managers\, traders and fundamental analysts\, data strategists\, quantitative researchers\, and others. The topic covered range from quantitative alpha generation\, big data as well as alternative datasets\, quantamental signals i.e. the intersection of fundamental analysis and quantitative decision making\, mathematical and statistical aspects of modern quantitative analysis\, use of programming languages or quant tools\, Natural Language Processing\, machine learning for investing and risk management\, theory and implementation of AI in finance and more. \nJOIN THIS GROUP \nCloseGuest Speaker \nSudar Purushothaman is a Partner and Portfolio Manager for the FCO strategy and a member of Foundation’s Executive Committee.
