SUMMARY:Financial Issues Forum Presents Joseph Calandro\, Jr. on “The Credit Cycle: Challenges & Solutions”
DESCRIPTION:OverviewThis presentation by Joe Calandro will profile the United States credit cycle and the challenges it poses\, along with a perspective on where we seem to be in the cycle today. He will show the prior credit cycle wave of progressively lower inflation and interest rates began in 1982\, following a historic inflationary trend\, and ended in the year 2020. Mr. Calandro’s analysis suggests that the current (as of mid-2023) credit cycle of waves of progressively higher inflation and interest rates will present strategic risks and opportunities that will increasingly have to be dealt with. To help facilitate this\, he will provide practical suggestions that can be addressed by executives\, investors and employees both today and in the years to come. \nAbout the Speaker\nJoseph Calandro\, Jr. is a managing director of a global consulting firm with over 35 years of broad industry\, consulting\, teaching and research experience in the United States and internationally focusing on strategy/M&A\, business intelligence/analytics and performance/risk management. He is also a Fellow of the Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis at Fordham University\, a contributing editor of Strategy & Leadership and a member of the non-profit Progress Through Business. \nThis program is free\, but advance registration is required. Registered guests will receive the link prior to the program.

SUMMARY:Intro to Data Viz and Business Analytics with Microsoft Power BI
DESCRIPTION:OverviewA two-day virtual course\, Presented by Cognitir. \nStrong data culture is a sine qua non for effective organizations in the digital age\, and proprietary data insights are increasingly becoming the most important asset such organizations can accrue. Additionally\, firms that are invested in crafting a compelling\, authentic narrative from their data are uniquely positioned to establish enduring brands\, often thriving in the dynamic markets and uncertain times we find ourselves in. When it comes to communicating such insights in service of a great mission or brand\, there are few things that can beat a striking data visualization. \nWe invite participants to explore an exciting and extensible data visualization framework (Microsoft Power BI) that allows finance and business professionals to create reports and dashboards on top of their existing data products. Participants will learn how to gather relevant data from sample spreadsheets\, overcome common data preparation obstacles\, and build an interactive dashboard they can publish to the web. \nAt the conclusion of the workshop\, participants will have developed their own web dashboard that they can readily adapt to their own professional contexts\, and which they can then use to obtain better insights into their own work and/or share it with their co-workers. \nMember$419if registered by 09/27Non-Member$519if registered by 09/273 Course Bundle$138415if registered by 09/273 Course Bundle$167675if registered by 09/275% discount when purchasing 3 course Cognitir bundle!Course Curriculum×Course Curriculum\n\nIntroduction to Data Science for Finance & Fintech\n\nWhat is data science\, why is it relevant to finance & fintech\nApplications of data science to finance & fintech industries\n\n\nThe Data Science Process\n\nHow does the data science process typically look like within an organization?\nOverview of the main steps\nPitfalls & recommendations\n\n\nOverview of the Most Common Data Science Methods\n\nSupervised vs. unsupervised learning\n\n\nClassification in Python for Finance & Fintech\n\nWhen to use classification tasks\nOverview and implementation of decision tree classification in Python to\nobtain better customer insights\nEvaluation of classification tasks using accuracy\, confusion matrices\,\nexpected value\, etc.\nVisualization classification tasks using profit curves\, ROC curves\, AUC\, etc.\nSelecting informative attributes via information gain and entropy analyses\n\n\nClustering in Python for Finance & Fintech\n\nWhen to use clustering tasks\nOverview and implementation of k-means clustering in Python to understand\nstock data and optimize portfolios\nImproving k-means and using similarity for predictive modeling\n\n\nBig Data for Finance\n\nWhat is big data and why is big data relevant to finance & fintech\nHow does big data relate to the concepts taught in this course?\nOverview of most common big data technologies\n\n\nWrap-Up and Summary\n\nCloseCourse Developers×Course Developers\nDavid Haber \nDavid has led programming workshops at the undergraduate and graduate levels\, at blue chip companies\, and world renowned management consulting firms. \nDavid has experience working with both startups and large corporations. SUMMARY:2nd Annual Infrastructure Outlook: Data Centers and Student Housing
DESCRIPTION:OverviewAs society has quickly adopted the ‘internet-of-things\,’ 5G\, and cloud computing\, data centers have grown from a niche segment to a critical component of our nation’s Infrastructure. The top four hyperscalers (Microsoft\, AWS\, Google\, and Meta) are expected to invest approximately $1 trillion to keep up with demand\, including from resource-heavy artificial intelligence. Historically this investment was done in-house\, but now external financing is needed to help fill the void. \nSimilarly\, student housing has garnered significant attention and investment in recent years as state and federal governments face increasing budget deficits\, turning to private capital sources to build much-needed accommodation for a growing quality workforce. In the next four years\, over 129 thousand beds are needed in the US at an average price of $100 thousand per bed\, equaling more than $12 trillion of investment. \nThis event will help members understand these two fast growing sectors\, related investment and lending opportunities\, and associated risks. \nAgenda5:30 PM | REGISTRATION \n\n6:00 PM | INTRODUCTION \nTom Schultz\, CFA\, CAIA\, Principal Investment Analyst\, Cornell University Office of Investments \n\n6:05 PM | PANEL DISCUSSION \nModerator \nMichael Ball\, CFA\, \, Vice Chair of the Alternative Investments Group\, CFA Society New York \nPanelists \nEdward Casserley\, Principal\, Stonepeak \nChea Hart\, Principal\, DigitalBridge \nJim Hennessy\, Managing Director\, Harrison Street \nMichael Tranter\, Managing Director\, Infrastructure Finance\, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation \n\n6:45 PM | Q&A \n\n6:55 PM | CLOSING REMARKS \nPatrick Nessenthaler\, CFA\, CAIA\, CRE\, Vice Chair of the Alternative Investments Group\, CFA Society New York \n\nAdditional DetailsLearning Outcomes \n\nLearn what makes these alternative asset classes appealing to investors and lenders.\nLearn who the main data center and student housing owners and tenants are. How do supply and demand look for these sectors?\nLearn the types of data centers (colocation\, build-to-suit\, hyperscale). What is contractually different between these types (tenant lease\, mechanical\, electrical\, plumbing\, and server investments)?\nLearn where data centers are located and why. How are data centers built\, and what are their key design and investment considerations? What are the typical metrics around size? Any ESG considerations?\nLearn which geographic areas have the best growth in university enrollment vs. housing stock imbalance. What local factors enhance or detract from opportunities (credit history\, labor\, supply chain\, NIMBY socioeconomic events\, moratoriums)?\nLearn how are these financed during construction and upon stabilization (infrastructure style\, real estate style\, ABS\, CMBS\, private placement\, etc.).
