SUMMARY:Financial Issues Forum presents Raghuram Rajan and Rohit Lamba on “Breaking the Mould: Reimagining India’s Economic Future”
DESCRIPTION:OverviewWhere is India going today? Is it surging forward\, having just overtaken the United Kingdom to become the fifth-largest economy in the world? Or is it flailing\, unable to provide jobs for the millions joining the labor force? What should India do to secure a better future? India is at a crossroads today. Its growth rate\, while respectable relative to other large countries\, is too low for the jobs the youth need. Intense competition in low-skilled manufacturing\, increasing protectionism globally and growing automation make the situation still more difficult. \nIn Breaking the Mould\, authors Raghuram Rajan and Rohit Lamba explain how it is possible to accelerate economic development by investing in India’s human capital\, expanding opportunities in high-skilled services and manufacturing centered on innovative new products\, and making India a ferment of ideas and creativity. They urge India to break free from the shackles of the past and look to the possibilities of the future. \nThis program is free\, but advance registration is required. Registered guests will receive the link prior to the program. The first 100 guests will receive a FREE electronic copy of the book\, courtesy of the Fordham Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis. \nAbout the SpeakerRaghuram Rajan is the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago’s Booth School. He was the governor of the Reserve Bank of India (2013-2016)\, vice-chairman of the Board of the Bank for International Settlements (2015-16) and chief economist at the International Monetary Fund (2003-2006). Dr. Rajan’s research interests are in banking\, corporate finance and economic development. His book Fault Lines won the Financial Times prize for best business book in 2010 and The Third Pillar: How Markets and the State Hold the Community Behind\, was a finalist for the award in 2019. \n \nRohit Lamba is an assistant professor of economics at Pennsylvania State University and a visiting Assistant Professor of Economics at New York University Abu Dhabi. He received a Ph.D. in economics at Princeton University and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Cambridge. He also taught at the University of Pennsylvania and worked as an economist at the Office of the Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India. Dr. Lamba publishes regularly in academic journals and popular media.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Python for Business and Finance- Cognitir
DESCRIPTION:OverviewPython is a high-level\, object-oriented programming language that is used in a variety of projects ranging from data science and machine learning to backend web development. In fact\, it is one of the most in demand programming languages today. \nLearning Python is a great entry point into the technical world as the syntax is much easier to learn compared to other programming languages. Because of its syntax simplicity\, Python is a common first programming language for business and finance individuals. \nBut\, do not be misinformed! Just because Python has easier syntax does not make it any less powerful compared to other languages. Many of the world’s tech majors use Python as part of their technical ecosystems. \nThis one-day\, hands-on introductory course teaches students foundational Python concepts and how to use Python’s popular libraries to complete various technical tasks. Students are presented with Python coding challenges throughout the day to test their understanding of the material. The course culminates with a challenging in-class coding project where students apply concepts taught in the course to create a game. \nThis is Cognitir’s standard one-day Intro to Python course (7 hours of instruction) and may be broken up into several days. \nMember$419if registered by 05/12Non-Member$519if registered by 05/123 Course Bundle$147915if registered by 05/123 Course Bundle$177555if registered by 05/125% discount when purchasing 3 course Cognitir bundle!Course Curriculum×Course Curriculum\nIntroduction \n\nWhat is Python?\nUse cases\nPython vs. other popular languages\n\nPython Development Environments \n\nBrief tour of Jupyter Notebook\, Sublime Text Editor\, and other IDEs\n\nData Structure Fundamentals \n\nNumbers\nVariables\nStrings\nPrint formatting\nLists\nTuples\nDictionaries\nSets\nBooleans\n\nComparison Operators and Conditionals \n\nIf\, elif\, and else statements\n\nLoops \n\nFor loops\nWhile loops\n\nOther Useful Operators \n\nRange\nZip\nIn\nMin & max\nInput\n\nImporting Libraries \n\nOverview of common libraries\n\nBuilt-in Methods \n\nList methods\nString methods\nDictionary methods\n\nDebugging Code \n\nPrinting variables\nPylint\nUnittest\n\nIn-class Project \nWrap-Up and Summary \nCloseCourse Developers×Course Developers\nDavid Haber \nDavid has led programming workshops at the undergraduate and graduate levels\, at blue chip companies\, and world renowned management consulting firms. \nDavid has experience working with both startups and large corporations. Zannoni also tells the story of how the Continental Congress established the first public bank in North America\, exploring the roles of Thomas Jefferson\, Benjamin Franklin and Alexander Hamilton. \nSpanning many countries\, political systems and historical eras\, this book shows that at the heart of these institutions is an intricate exchange of debts and promises that shaped the modern world as we know it. \nThis program is free\, but advance registration is required. Registered guests will receive the link prior to the program. The first 100 guests will receive a FREE electronic copy of the book\, courtesy of the Fordham Gabelli Center for Global Security Analysis. \nAbout the SpeakerPaolo Zannoni is the executive deputy chairman of the Board of Prada\, president of Prada Holding and international advisor to the executive office of Goldman Sachs International. SUMMARY:Intro to Data Visualization and Business Analytics with Microsoft Power BI - Cognitir
DESCRIPTION:There are no prerequisites for this course\, though some may find it helpful to have experience with Microsoft Excel and Power Query\, as Power BI uses similar formulas and frameworks. \nOverviewStrong data culture is a sine qua non for effective organizations in the digital age\, and proprietary data insights are increasingly becoming the most important asset such organizations can accrue. Additionally\, firms that are invested in crafting a compelling\, authentic narrative from their data are uniquely positioned to establish enduring brands\, often thriving in the dynamic markets and uncertain times we find ourselves in. When it comes to communicating such insights in service of a great mission or brand\, there are few things that can beat a striking data visualization. \nOver the course of a single day\, we invite participants to explore an exciting and extensible data visualization framework (Microsoft Power BI) that allows finance and business professionals to create reports and dashboards on top of their existing data products. Participants will learn how to gather relevant data from sample spreadsheets\, overcome common data preparation obstacles\, and build an interactive dashboard they can publish to the web. \nAt the conclusion of the workshop\, participants will have developed their own web dashboard that they can readily adapt to their own professional contexts\, and which they can then use to obtain better insights into their own work and/or share it with their co-workers. \nMember$419if registered by 05/12Non-Member$519if registered by 05/123 Course Bundle$147915if registered by 05/123 Course Bundle$177555if registered by 05/125% discount when purchasing 3 course Cognitir bundle!Course Curriculum×Course Curriculum\n\nIntroduction\n\nWalkthrough\nwhat is Microsoft Power BI?\nSuccess stories and use cases\nHow companies and individuals have used dashboards successfully to become more data-driven\nInitial Setup\nReview of popular resources for Power BI\n\n\nConnecting Data and Transforming Data in Power BI\n\nHow does Power BI connect to our data?\nHow might we clean and transform our data to prepare it for a dashboard?\nWhat is Power Query and how does it work?\nUpdating and modifying data loads\nCustomizing a table we’ve loaded\nCustomizing and adding columns to a table\n\n\nTable Relationships and Data Models\n\nIntroduction to the Relationships pane in Power BI\nHow does one establish relationships?\nCardinality of relationships\nFact and Dimension tables\nBasic schema types (data models) and normalization\n\n\nData Analysis with DAX and M \n\nM and Power Query\nDAX and the Data pane\nWhen to use M and when to use DAX\nCommon M transformations\nCommon DAX transformations\nMeasures\, filters\, and contexts\n\n\nData Visualization\n\nIntro to the Report pane\nTiles\, tabs\, and filters\nCommon visualizations and their use cases\nFormatting a visual\nSlicers and Interactions\nStyling and Accessibility\n\n\nSummative Project\, Exit Review\, and Next Steps\n\nCloseCourse Developers×Course Developers\nDavid Haber \nDavid has led programming workshops at the undergraduate and graduate levels\, at blue chip companies\, and world renowned management consulting firms. \nDavid has experience working with both startups and large corporations.
