John C. S. Anderson

John is a 25-year infrastructure and renewable energy investor, including the following milestones:
- One of the leaders of Manulife’s $10 billion renewable energy and energy efficiency investing program.
- One of the leaders of Manulife’s $ 400 million Green Bond investing program.
- Catalyst for John Hancock being the first life insurance company to join the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) as a founding member.
- Catalyst for Manulife being the first life insurance company to sign the Equator Principles.
- Advised the US Department of Energy on the development of the Financial Institution Partnership Program for the broader financing of Renewable Energy, with John Hancock becoming both the first and most active investor in the program.
John spent his first 10 years at John Hancock leading the firm’s Power & Infrastructure investing team in Boston, which he grew from $10 billion to $17 billion of debt and equity investments.
Prior to joining Manulife in 2001, Mr. Anderson worked for 10 years in the New York and London offices of JP Morgan Chase, where he led teams that advised on or arranged more than $8 billion in bank and bond market financing in the power and infrastructure sectors. This work included substantial corporate and project finance work, in both developed (US, France, Germany) and developing (Croatia, Turkey, Colombia, Russia) economies.
John holds an MBA from Georgetown University and a BA in Economics from The University of Chicago. He speaks French, Serbo-Croatian, German, Spanish, and Russian at an intermediate level, and would not be mistaken for a native speaker in any of these languages.
