Timothy Chu
Tim Chu is a Financial Sector Expert in the IMF’s Global Markets Analysis division and serves as the Fund’s New York Representative, acting as a liaison to both public and private institutions in the city. In addition to his representative role, Tim contributes to the division’s high-frequency market surveillance and relays market intelligence to the IMF’s leadership and membership from his post in New York. His work also spans broader global financial stability issues, with recent contributions to the flagship Global Financial Stability Report and other forums focused on sovereign debt dynamics and financial plumbing. Tim has extensive official sector experience, having served as a Senior Policy Advisor in the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Capital Markets from 2023 to 2024. Prior to this, he spent nearly nine years in various roles at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, including as a trader and policy analyst on the Open Market Trading Desk during the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a policy principal in the Central Bank & International Account Services function.
Tim holds a BA in Economics from Rutgers University, an MPA from New York University, and an MA from Columbia University.
