Overview
As often occurs in financial markets, hedge funds and alternative investment products have undergone various “boom & bust” periods. In spite of popularity rising and falling over the course of time, large institutional investors have continued to hold significant allocations to hedge funds and private market alternatives. On the contrary, data indicates that private wealth advisors have been and continue to be laggards with de minimis allocations to illiquid alternatives in aggregate. Elevated valuations in public markets and low bond yields have generated increased interest in alternative offerings to bolster long-term returns – as well as diversify beyond traditional stocks and bonds. Today new platforms, technologies, and asset managers are fueling an increasingly abundant set of products alongside streamlined access – in an effort to provide distribution of hedge funds and private market solutions to broader audiences of investors in the retail HNW space.
