This event will explore a critical issue facing money managers–cyber security–and what they can do to protect themselves. Managers need to understand the broad range of threats as they are only as good as the weakest link in the financial ecosystem. The discussion will be led by subject matter experts from the FBI, DTCC, technology firms, compliance specialists and money managers.

Our panel of experts will explore the new regulation known as “Markets in Financial Instruments Directive” (MiFID II), a policy directive that will have far reaching consequences for all financial services firms. The central theme of this regulation is increased transparency and safeguards for investors and has direct implications for areas such as treatment of soft dollars, research and data access, break evens for small and emerging managers and beyond. Currently only a European regulation, this is highly likely to at least impact firms operating in the US and yet the implications are still poorly understood by the investing world. We will explore the positives and the negatives to this legislation and its effect on investment firms.

The financial industry is experiencing significant innovation, from increased digitalization, application of artificial intelligence, and fintech partnerships to important changes including LIBOR transition and new credit loss modeling. In turn, these disruptions, while beneficial to firms adopting them, are broadening the traditional definition of operational risk and elevating the attention firms now pay to operational risk measurement and management.
