Alan S. Blinder

Alan S. Blinder is the Gordon S. Rentschler Memorial Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University. He is also vice chairman of the Promontory Interfinancial Network and a regular columnist for the Wall Street Journal.

Blinder served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from June 1994 until January 1996. Before becoming a member of the Board, Blinder served as a member of President Clinton’s original Council of Economic Advisers from January 1993 until June 1994. There he was in charge of the administration’s macroeconomic forecasting and also worked intensively on budget, international trade, and health care issues. During the 2000, 2004, and 2016 presidential campaigns, he was an economic advisor to Al Gore, John Kerry, and Hillary Clinton, and he continues to advise numerous members of Congress and officeholders. He was the founder and either director or co-director of Princeton’s Center for Economic Policy Studies from 1989 to 2011.

Blinder is the author or co-author of 20 books, including his latest, Advice and Dissent: Why America Suffers When Economics and Politics Collide, and has written scores of scholarly articles. He frequently speaks to financial and other audiences and appears on PBS, CNBC, CNN, Bloomberg TV, and elsewhere. Blinder earned his AB at Princeton University, MSc at London School of Economics, and PhD at Massachusetts Institute of Technology—all in economics.
