Andrew Johnstone
Andrew Johnstone, the co-founder and CEO of CFM, has more than 25 years of experience in the infrastructure investment sector and has actively been involved in the structuring, raising and deployment of both equity and debt funds in emerging markets. His experience includes the direct management of five unlisted infrastructure fund vehicles in Africa prior to launching the current CFM global funds, which themselves constitute a further five equity funds to date.
Andrew is also the non-executive Chairman of the Investment Committee of two infrastructure credit/debt funds, being the Stanbic IBTC Infrastructure Fund in Nigeria and the Sanlam Impact Infrastructure Fund in South Africa. Additionally, Andrew is the independent director and Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Africa Finance Corporation’s pan African Climate Resilient Infrastructure Fund. Andrew has also been on the board, and in some instances Chairman, of several large-scale infrastructure projects such as the 430km N3 Toll Road in South Africa, the 10km Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge in Bangladesh, the 22km Lekki Toll Road in Lagos, Nigeria and WPC Wind Farm in Vietnam.
Accordingly, Andrew has extensive experience in appraising investment opportunities, structuring debt and equity investments and actively managing infrastructure projects and businesses. Currently, in his role as CEO of CFM, Andrew plays an active part in managing the day-to-day activities of CFM, is an integral part of the investment team, and represents CFM in the Funds’ Investment Committees.
Between 2000 and 2014, before founding CFM, Andrew was the CEO and Managing Director of Africa Infrastructure Investment Managers, a joint venture between Macquarie Bank of Australia and Old Mutual of South Africa, and over that period, the largest private sector infrastructure fund manager and investor in Africa (AIIM). Andrew has a BSc Civil Engineering degree from the University of Natal in South Africa, and a MBA -Engineering Management and Finance degree from the City University in London, UK.
