Brendan Dickinson
Brendan invests in startups that are changing the world with code in the fintech, e-commerce and digital media sectors. He built Canaan’s investment thesis in insurance tech and is passionate about companies that are re-imagining how insurance products are purchased and sold. He led the series A investment in Embroker and serves on the company’s board, driving the company’s mission to transform the commercial insurance market through a technology driven brokerage experience.
Brendan also led Canaan’s Series A investment in Ladder which is bringing efficiency to the process for purchasing term life insurance. He sits on the company’s board. He is also a board member for EVEN Financial and provides strategic guidance to several portfolio companies including borro, JOOR, NatureBox, Orchard, and ShopKeep.
Prior to joining Canaan in 2010, Brendan worked at AppFund, a seed-stage venture firm focused on the mobile sector. He was also a senior quantitative analyst at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital writing programming language that helped optimize book performance through the financial crisis.
Brendan received an M.B.A. with distinction from NYU Stern School of Business, where he specialized in Finance and Entrepreneurship and was a Stern Scholar. He also holds an M.S. in Computer Science from Brown University and a B.A. in Political Science from Bowdoin College.
