Charles Royce

Charles M. Royce is currently Senior Advisor to Royce Investment Partners, after retiring from positions including President and CEO of the firm, which he founded in 1972. The firm specializes in investments in both domestic and international small capitalization stocks. Chuck received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Brown University in 1961 and a master’s degree in business administration from Columbia University in 1963.

Chuck is a fellow emeritus of the Brown Corporation, served three terms as trustee of Brown University, established the Royce Fellowship in 1996 which supports undergraduate research and enrichment projects, and established the Royce Family Professorship for Teaching Excellence in 2004 to foster, promote and reward undergraduate teaching at the highest level at Brown. Chuck currently serves as a trustee for The Frick Collection and is its Investment Committee Chairman, trustee of the Berkeley School of Divinity at Yale University, the Bruce Museum, and the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach. Chuck served on the Vestry of Trinity Wall Street and Christ Church in Greenwich, CT, where he was instrumental in founding “Courage and Faith”, a series that presents leading writers and artists to the community.

Chuck was inducted into the RI Heritage Hall of Fame in 2019 and most recently he received the 2024 Financial Innovation Award from the Museum of American Finance.

Together with his wife, author Deborah Goodrich Royce, Chuck has taken on many “Main Street” preservation and revitalization projects in Tannersville, NY, including the Mountain Top Library, Fromer’s Farm, and the hundred-year-old Deer Mountain Inn, in Stamford, CT, the Avon Theatre, and in Westerly, RI they led the restoration of the Ocean House, a Victorian-era wooden seaside resort hotel originally built in the 1860s that reopened in 2010 after a seven-year reconstruction. Completed in 2022, the United Theatre was restored to become a cultural center bringing together various forms of art, music, and dance. Chuck and his Royce Family Fund was instrumental in the building of the very successful Westerly Education Center and is currently working on the Tower Street Center, a multi-purpose community space being re-purposed from an abandoned school.

Chuck and Deborah live in Greenwich, CT, Watch Hill, RI, and Palm Beach, FL. He is the proud father of four children, two step-children, and a happily increasing brood of grandchildren.
