Christopher Haarstick
As a Senior Portfolio Manager, Chris is a member of Bell’s institutional investment management team and leads the external strategies committee. His role often involves taking large amounts of complex information that is littered with Wall Street jargon, and turning that into clear and concise opinions, and actions on behalf of our clients.
Prior to joining Bell, Chris was the Director of Investments and Portfolio Consulting for one of the largest financial services companies in the country. He was instrumental in their expansion nationally, including as the investment leader of their highly successful custodial referral program in partnership with Charles Schwab, Fidelity and T.D. Ameritrade, driving growth specifically in the New York City, Chicago, Houston and Florida markets. He also helped onboard over 50 acquisitions while assets grew from $6B to over $50B.
He has appeared as a guest speaker at several industry conferences, a regular guest on WCCO 830 in Minneapolis and been quoted in the Financial Times and Forbes. He has also vetted hundreds of projects/deals that were not part of a fund structure, and has led an estimated 3000+ investment manager diligence meetings in his career and was nominated in 2011 as an inaugural Private Wealth Due Diligence All-Star. He is regularly consulted for his expertise in non-traditional asset classes, as he has worked with a number of first time funds, manager lift-outs, family offices and blue-chip managers in the alternatives world.
He started his career in 2002 as an investment analyst working for a large institutional consulting firm in Minneapolis (Jeffrey Slocum and Associates), which managed $70B+ on behalf of foundation, endowment and pension plan clients. During this time he covered both public equity managers and alternative managers.
He is currently the President of the “Legends of Legion Baseball”, a 501c non-profit dedicated to building the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame in the Birthplace of Legion Baseball, Milbank, SD. He also currently serves on the board of Pioneer Public TV.
