David Kee, CFA
David Kee is Deputy President of SMBC Nikko Securities America Inc. and CEO of SMBC Nikko Canada, the North American registered broker-dealer arms of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG). . Mr. Kee is also the Principal Supervisor for all SMBC Americas staff registered to conduct securities and investment banking business with clients. SMBC Nikko Americas gained regulatory approval as a full-service investment bank in 2014/15 and has been the primary fee growth business for SMFG since that time. SMBC Nikko America now employs over 350 professionals. Mr. Kee has been in various leadership roles in both marketing and research since joining Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) in 1996. Previously, Mr. Kee was General Manager and co-head of SMBC U.S. Corporate Banking, which markets SMBC’s global products and services primarily to the U.S. Fortune 1000. This team had existing business relationships with over 400 customers and portfolio management responsibility for more than $70 billions of loan commitments.
Mr. Kee managed a team of over 110 professionals based in New York, Houston, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Coverage included commercial and investment banking business in seven major industry sectors. During his career at SMBC, Mr. Kee helped create, build and manage the tech, media, telecom practice and the Private Equity sponsor and leveraged finance business. Mr. Kee has managed client and strategic relationships throughout the world and his career experience also includes significant activity in cross border finance, project finance and structured finance in a diverse range of areas, including wireless towers, cruise ships, film, aircraft, broadband communications, internet commerce, clean energy and margin lending. Prior to joining SMBC, Mr. Kee worked at Chase Manhattan Bank/Chemical Banking Corporation in Research, Risk Management and Leverage Finance in the U.S. and U.K. for eight years. Prior to that, he worked at Jacobs Engineering Group as a Business Engineering Consultant in Washington, D.C. Mr. Kee is a CFA charterholder and holds FINRA Series 79, 63 and 24 licenses as well as Canadian Directors, Chief Compliance Officer and Investment Rep licenses. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, has an M.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from Georgetown University and has completed Executive training at the Wharton School of Business.
