Dr. Patricia Laverley
Dr. Patricia Laverley currently serves as the Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of Sierra Leone. Her responsibilities includes, among others, the formulation and implementation of the Ministry of Finance’s Strategic Plan and Public Financial Management Reform Strategy (2019-2023), aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the public financial management system in the country. She brings enormous experience to the Ministry of Finance, following 20 years of professional experience at the IMF, World Bank, HSBC, and the African Development Bank.
Her rich academic background includes Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate degrees at the American University in Washington, DC and London, UK. Patricia previously delivered courses on development economics and finance, authored/co-authored publications on the imbalance in the global financial architecture, effectiveness of World Bank programs, and ADB’s public financial management reforms across Africa.
She has delivered presentations on critical macroeconomic issues in leading global finance conferences, i.e., WB/IMF Annual Meetings, IDA/ADB Replenishment Consultations, UNCTAD’s Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals and Metals, etc. One of her notable private sector experience includes carrying out financial audits at HSBC in New York for its compliance with US financial market regulations.
