Gijs van Thiel
Gijs van Thiel is a founder and Managing Partner of 747 Capital. Founded in 2001, 747 Capital is a New York based niche private equity firm that is solely focused on making primary, secondary and co-investments in the North American small cap buyout market. Currently investing from its fifth generation fund, 747 Capital has active relationships with over 40 private equity teams.
Gijs is a member of the investment committee and is responsible for investments and manager due diligence, as well as operations and marketing of 747 Capital. As a representative of 747 Capital, he serves on numerous advisory committees of private equity funds in the U.S. Mr. van Thiel started his career in the U.S. in 1993 as a diplomat for the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency in New York. Subsequently, he was Director of Financial Services for Icon International, Inc., a specialty finance company located in New York. While at Icon, Mr. van Thiel started making private equity investments. In 1998, Mr. van Thiel co-founded and became the Managing Partner of a $50 million venture capital fund, Triad Media Ventures. Mr. van Thiel holds a B.A. in Management and Human Resources from Webster University (Leiden, the Netherlands) and a M.B.A. in international management from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management (Glendale, Arizona).
