Dr. Howard Schilit is founder and CEO of Schilit Forensics LLC, a NY-based consultancy that advises investment managers and other stakeholders on evidence of accounting anomalies and quality of earnings matters in financial filings of publicly-traded companies. Over the last 27 years, his teams have been at the forefront in warning investors about many of the most prominent accounting frauds and other misrepresentations leading to restatements. The media has dubbed him “the Sherlock Holmes of Accounting”.

He is the author of Financial Shenanigans: How to Detect Accounting Gimmicks & Fraud in Financial Reports, now in its 4th Edition (March 2018).

He has been a leading spokesman before the US Congress, the SEC, and global media outlets about accounting tricks and the early warning signs of business deterioration in public filings.

Dr. Schilit began his career as an Associate Professor of Accounting at American University in Washington D.C. and continues to guest lecture at leading universities and CFA societies.

Dr. Schilit holds a doctorate in Accounting from the University of Maryland
