Jason Strimpel
Jason began his career trading derivatives for a Chicago-based hedge fund. After its implosion in 2006, he joined JPMorgan Chase, where he held multiple trading and risk management positions. After JPMorgan Chase, he joined BP’s derivatives trading business as a credit risk specialist managing $20B in credit exposure. He moved to London in 2014, where he led the global quant developer team deploying market risk technology for the oil and gas trading businesses. In 2015, he moved to Singapore as Chief Information Officer for agricultural trader COFCO. While in Singapore, he joined a fintech venture capital firm, launched several startups, and ended up back in corporate at the global metals trader Rio Tinto. At Rio Tinto, he built and led the engineering, data science, and analytics organization, where he developed the trading systems for Rio Tinto’s $60B metals trading business. He returned to the United States with Amazon Web Services, where he works today. Jason holds a Master of Science degree in Quantitative Finance from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and is the author of the Python for Algorithmic Trading Cookbook.
In 2022, Jason founded PyQuant News, where he taught over 1,300 people how to use Python for quant finance, algorithmic trading, and market data analysis. He also publishes a twice-weekly newsletter with more than 27,000 subscribers.
