John Adler

John Adler oversees the Office of ESG, which focuses on initiatives related to environmental, social, and governance impacts, risks and opportunities of the companies in which the pension funds invest. Key areas of this work encompass corporate governance, Economically Targeted Investments, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, climate change, workers’ rights, and the incorporation of ESG principles throughout the investment process.

Before joining BAM, John held the position of Director of the Mayor’s Office of Pensions and Investments and served as the Chief Pension Investment Advisor under Mayor Bill de Blasio. He dedicated 23 years to the labor movement, with his most recent role being the Director of the Retirement Security Campaign at the Service Employees International Union. In this capacity, he led state initiatives to establish state-sponsored retirement plans for workers lacking access to such options and co-founded the Georgetown Center for Retirement Initiatives.

Mr. Adler received his B.A. from Yale University.
