Kurt Burneo
Kurt Johnny Burneo Farfan was appointed Minister of Economy and Finance in August 2022. He has a doctorate in Business Administration and Management from the Ramon Llull-Esade University, Spain; Master’s in Economics at the Pontifia Universidad Catolica del Peru; former Escola de Pós-Graduação em Economía fellow at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil; and, economist from the National University of San Marcos. With extensive experience in public management, he was head of the Ministry of Production, and Vice Minister of Finance of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). Likewise, he has served as director of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, executive president of Banco de la Nación; Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Banco de la Nacion; and President of the Cash Committee of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Mr. Burneo has also been a director of the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington D.C. USA, and as alternate director of the Class “B” Shares at Corporación Andina de Fomento CAF. He has also served as advisor to the Budget and Economy Commission of the Congress of the Republic; advisor on financial issues to the presidency of the Supreme Court of the Republic. Until before his appointment, he had been serving as director of the Army Weapons and Ammunition Factory (FAME). He also has extensive teaching experience, being a specialist in courses related to finance and economics, having served as a professor at various universities in the country, such as the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University, the San Ignacio de Loyola University, the San Martin de Porres University and the Federico Villareal National University. He has also been director of the Economics career and vice-rector for Research and Development at the San Ignacio de Loyola University.
