Mark Cooper, CFA
Mark Cooper co-founded MAC Alpha Capital Management in 2020 and serves as its Chief Investment Officer. Prior to founding the MAC Alpha Capital, he was the Co-Portfolio Manager of First Eagle Investment Management’s International Small Cap Value strategy from 2014 to 2019, and a global generalist Portfolio Manager and Analyst at PIMCO from 2010 to 2014, where he managed a diversified quantitative U.S. equity fund and concentrated separate account. From 2005 to 2010, Mark was a Portfolio Manager at Omega Advisors, where he also served as a Partner beginning in 2006. At Omega Advisors, he focused on global industrials, capital goods and commodities/energy sectors. From 2002 to 2004, he was an Analyst at Pequot Capital Management, after graduating from Columbia Business School (CBS).
Prior to CBS, from 1992 to 2000, Mark was a Portfolio Manager in the fixed income, commodities, and foreign exchange asset classes at JP Morgan, where he co-managed a $50 billion notional value portfolio investing in both European and exotic options. He also managed a $10 billion portfolio focused on long-dated gold and silver.
Mark earned his MBA from Columbia Business School in 2002 and a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1991. He served as an Adjunct Professor of Finance and Economics at Columbia Business School, where he taught Applied Value Investing, from 2004 to 2025, and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. In 2020 he co-authored the book Value Investing: From Graham to Buffett and Beyond – Second Edition.
