Michael Buthe, CFA

Michael Buthe has been with the ACE Group since January, 2011. He is a Managing Director of ACE Asset Management and Chief Investment Officer of ACE’s Life insurance business. ACE Life is primarily focused on development in the emerging markets of Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Prior to joining ACE Mr. Buthe spent 13 years at AIG. From 2002 to 2010 he was Chief Investment Officer of the American Life Insurance Company (Alico), one of AIG’s foreign Life Insurance companies. With operations in 50 countries, Alico was purchased by MetLife in 2010. Mr. Buthe was responsible for a variety of investment portfolios supporting the life, pension, mutual fund and asset management businesses Alico developed. From 1999 to 2002 he worked in a European regional investment role based in London. Earlier in his career Mr. Buthe worked in corporate finance in the consumer products, real estate and entertainment industries. This included spending 2 years in Buenos Aires, Argentina in a post-acquisition role. Prior experience also included working in several treasury function roles. Mr. Buthe is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder, a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and a member of the CFA Institute. Mr. Buthe holds a BS from Cornell University and an MBA in Finance from the Stern School of Business, New York University.
