Sergio Mendez
has served as acting Chief Investment Officer of Afore XXI-Banorte (CIO) since May 2016. Its main function is to monitor the proper implementation of investment strategies approved by the Investment Committees for Siefores administered. Afore XXI-Banorte, has assets under management of $ 640,000 million. Sergio has over 22 years experience in investment areas. Prior to Afore XXI Banorte-he served as CIO of Santander Asset Management in Mexico, investment fund manager with assets under Custodial MXN 250 million, including local fixed income strategies, equity and multi asset. He previously served as Chief Investment Officer of Afore XXI, where he managed more than $ 210 billion pesos and managed to bring the Afore to a leadership position in competitive performance. At the same time, he was in charge of the Investment Committees of the Mexican Association of Retirement Funds (AMAFORE). Sergio and his team were recognized by the company “FundPro” with the Platinum Performance Award for Afores in 2011, the first Afore to obtain it.Previously, he served as Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Prudential Financial in Mexico, D.F., overseeing the management of investment funds, and the balance of the Bank and the portfolio of the local insurer. Previously, Lic. Sergio Mendez was General Director of Nafinsa Securities in New York, and was Vice President of Inverlat Securities and worked for Operadora de Bolsa Serfin in the money market. Lic. Sergio Mendez earned a degree in Economics from the Autonomous Institute of Mexico (ITAM) in 1995 with the thesis: “The Mexican crisis of 1995, a perspective from the financial markets.”
