Stéphane Brabant

Stéphane Brabant is a Paris-based partner of global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills and co-chair of the firm’s Africa practice. He also chairs the global mining practice, is head of the firm’s crisis management group for Africa, and co-head of the business and human rights practice. Stéphane has 27 years of experience as a projects lawyer in the emerging markets, including in particular Africa. As well as advising on the structuring of complex investments between multinationals and States, Stéphane has built a strong practice in recent years advising on crisis prevention and management, compliance, anti-corruption and business and human rights issues, notably in the context of large investment projects and other matters in the natural resources and energy sectors in Africa. Stéphane has been consistently ranked in the top tier by the leading legal directories for his expertise in relation to Africa and is the only lawyer singled out as a “Senior Statesman” for Africa-wide Projects and Energy by Chambers Global 2016, which says that Stéphane “is described by clients as ‘a star on the African continent’.”
