  • Code of Conduct for Volunteers, Members and Employees

  • This Code is the only formal method of asserting a grievance. Members or volunteers are not prohibited from informally raising a grievance with a Board member.

Members, Board and volunteer group members, volunteers, and employees may not attempt to exercise individual authority over the policies and operations of the CFANY except through their roles as voting members of the Board or volunteer groups. Human resources, marketing, IT and membership operations and issues are the purview of the employees and not of volunteers.

Employees and members may not attempt to exercise individual authority over the policies and operations of the CFANY except through their specific job responsibilities and established supervisory structure.

Relationship with Other Members, Volunteers, Stakeholders and Employees

CFANY expects volunteers and all members to treat all people fairly and will not tolerate discrimination against volunteers, employees or members of the public based on a person's age, race, national origin, religion, disability, sex, pregnancy, or sexual orientation.

CFANY will not tolerate bullying or harassment, physical or threatened physical assault, ridicule and humiliation. Abusive behavior, offensive language directed at people and making malicious or unfounded allegations of a serious nature against people are also considered threatening behavior.

Volunteers and all members shall understand the scope of their authority and exercise good judgment in their dealings with other volunteers, stakeholders, employees, suppliers and the general public and shall respond to all constituents and the needs of the CFANY's members in a responsible, respectful and professional manner.

Volunteers and all members shall not request special or personal favors or extensive information from other volunteers, members, stakeholders, or employees, without prior consultation and agreement of the President who will bring it to the attention of the Chair of the Board.

CFANY events are professional gatherings and therefore appropriate behaviors are expected. All members and Volunteers shall adhere to CFANY policies, procedures, guidelines, and the Volunteer/Member Code of Conduct in all interactions with other volunteers, employees, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Volunteers, members, and employees shall refrain from having on their possession or using illegal drugs on CFANY's property or during CFANY events at other locations. Similarly, such persons may not drink alcoholic beverages on CFANY's property or during CFANY events at other locations, unless offered by or on behalf of CFANY. During visits to a bar by groups, after meet and greets or other events, when CFANY does not pay, volunteers are free to drink responsibly if they choose.

Volunteers, members, and employees may not bring onto CFANY's property or bring to CFANY events at other locations dangerous or unauthorized materials such as explosives, firearms, weapons or other similar items.

Violations of the Code of Conduct and Grievance Procedure.

CFANY is not responsible for resolving personal issues between members. CFANY employees shall attempt to resolve any CFANY-related issues with volunteers and members in a professional manner. If the volunteer or member's grievance concerns an individual involved at any level of the grievance shall provide cause for suspension or expulsion from membership, and any such suspension or expulsion shall be determined in the manner provided by the Bylaws.

Volunteers must disclose any conflicts of interest to the President and CEO.
