For FutureZero developing practical tools for corporate implementation and investor evaluation of Net Zero strategies. Project lead on development of European Foundation for Quality Management Assessbase tool currently being tested with 150 organisations across EMEA.
Consultant to several large, mid-corporate and medium-sized enterprises to align corporate strategy and functional organisational change strategies through self-assessment, performance measurement, improvement planning, supporting design and delivery of identified programmes and projects.

Founded and facilitates a ‘community of practice’ – the Valuing Non-Financial Performance virtual network – of over 400 corporate practitioners, investors, academics and advisers

Rapporteur on non-financial disclosure, 2010 European Union Multi-stakeholder Forum

John led the EU Laboratory on Valuing Non-Financial Performance. Results include:

  • Project Delphi: collaboration of 40 asset managers, asset owners and investment consultants developing non-financial investment management platform
  • Creation of European Combined Reporting Alliance which became International Integrated Reporting Council and now, International Sustainability Standards Board
  • Recommendations to European Commission on non-financial disclosure leading to 2014 Directive
    As Executive Director, led Academy of Business in Society’s corporate development: evolving strategy and value proposition. Membership increased from 100 to 130 in three years. Geographic expansion in US, Latin America and Asia resulted in rebranding from European Academy
    Adviser to Lloyds Banking Group’s senior executives in London, UK, on corporate responsibility, key regulatory issues and projects, broader external affairs and investor relations programs.
    Developed ESG Investor Relations program including roadshows for Lloyd’s deputy Group CEO and presentations to ESG sell and buy-side analysts
    Led key external Sustainability/ESG relationships at senior level including UK government departments, agencies and European Commission
    Developed and implemented Lloyds TSB’s acclaimed Corporate Responsibility Management System based on:
  •  Board level sponsorship
  •  Developed Lloyds TSB’s pioneering external and internal communications strategy, including stakeholder segmented corporate reporting
  • Continuous improvement based on annual self-assessment against the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) excellence model
  • Designed and led seminars and workshops on core strategic themes, working with external training organisations and in-company teams to deliver identified strategic priorities
