With scientific research pointing towards escalation, it is imperative, if not inevitable, that capital markets better incorporate these risks and identify opportunities. What data gives us insight into what companies are doing to prepare for and solve these issues? How well are companies disclosing this data?

Since the introduction of the Green Bond Principles by the ICMA in January 2014 and the negotiation at the end of 2015 as well as subsequent adoption of the Paris Climate Agreement by 196 signatories, the issuance of labelled green bonds has increased substantially. Cumulatively, about $350 billion in green bonds have been issued since the first green bond was launched in 2007. Last year, $155.4 billion in green bonds came to market, an increase of 66% versus 2016 and a four-fold increase since 2014. Issuers from across the globe included supranational institutions, corporations, banks and other financial entities, sovereign and sub-sovereign issuers, including municipalities in the US, as well as structured transactions.

The session is intended to serve as a primer for financial analysts, researchers, portfolio managers and others on sustainable investing, the current state, drivers, various approaches that are encapsulated by this approach and how to implement these into portfolio management across varying asset classes.
