MIFID II: How It Will Impact Your Business

CFA Society New York 1540 Broadway, New York City, NY, United States

Our panel of experts will explore the new regulation known as “Markets in Financial Instruments Directive” (MiFID II), a policy directive that will have far reaching consequences for all financial services firms. The central theme of this regulation is increased transparency and safeguards for investors and has direct implications for areas such as treatment of soft dollars, research and data access, break evens for small and emerging managers and beyond. Currently only a European regulation, this is highly likely to at least impact firms operating in the US and yet the implications are still poorly understood by the investing world. We will explore the positives and the negatives to this legislation and its effect on investment firms.

Financial Crisis, Corporate Governance and Bank Capital

Lowenstein Center Lincoln Center Campus, 113 West 60th Street, New York, NY, United States

In the aftermath of the 2008 crisis, senior policymakers and the media blamed excessive risk-taking by bank executives—undertaken in response to their compensation incentives—for the crisis. The inevitable follow-up to this was to introduce stronger financial regulation, in the hope that better and more ethical behavior could be induced. Despite the honorable intentions of regulation, such as the Dodd-Frank Act of 2010, it is clear that many big banks are still deemed too big to fail. This book argues that by restructuring executive incentive programs to include only restricted stock and restricted stock options with very long vesting periods, and by financing banks with considerably more equity, the potential of future financial crises can be minimized.

CFA Society New York 1540 Broadway, New York City, NY, United States

This conference provides a forum in New York to discuss the most recent developments in the GIPS standards and hear from industry experts on how they implement the standards and other performance measurement analyses at their respective firms. Between December 2017 and March 2018, Greenwich Associates interviewed 80 institutional investors in the U.S., incorporating a mix of asset managers, corporate pension plans and public pension plans. Respondents were asked a series of questions seeking to understand their perceptions of listed options strategies and to explore how institutional investors utilize exchange-listed equity options to achieve investment goals.
