Many public and corporate pension retirement systems worldwide are confronted with lower investment returns on existing assets that currently underfund the ultimate financial obligations of those plans. As a result, pension plans have been exploring different investment strategies and exposure to alternative asset classes. Between December 2017 and March 2018, Greenwich Associates interviewed 80 institutional investors in the U.S., incorporating a mix of asset managers, corporate pension plans and public pension plans. Respondents were asked a series of questions seeking to understand their perceptions of listed options strategies and to explore how institutional investors utilize exchange-listed equity options to achieve investment goals.
Kaplan Professional conjointly with the CFA Society New York Career Development Group presents a series of symposiums offering an introduction to ELEVEN—a Kaplan Professional leadership development program. In this introductory series, keynotes augmented by audience participation will be presented by ELEVEN program director (Milo-Arne Wilkinson) followed by full panel discussions and Q&A with industry leaders. The kickoff event on June 26, 2018 at CFA Society New York's office begins with the topic, “Are We Hard Wired for Change?” All topics will be presented in 45-minute workshops and include quick snapshots of the Eleven methodology. Each topic is highly interactive with a 60% / 40% split over theory and practical with a humorous, storytelling overlay to them all.
Midyear Market Outlook will examine the state of financial markets in a panel format. Panelist will come from a variety of market disciplines, Fixed Income, Equity, Macro Economy and Alternative Strategies as well as buy and sell side. A broad view of many markets will help asset managers and analysts look at opportunities and risks not only in their own markets but also in other markets where an overlap is not always apparent. Take advantage of the emergence of factor and goal-based investing. Join Yale School of Management and EDHEC-Risk Institute for a three-day executive education seminar, Multi-Asset Investment Products and Solutions. This seminar provides participants with an in-depth introduction to modern risk allocation techniques and their applications to the design of innovative forms of welfare improving investment products and solutions. Participants will learn how to perform factor investing and risk allocation, apply strategic asset allocation in the presence of liability constraints, and implement liability-driven investment solutions with cash and derivative instruments, among other takeaways. One of three seminars, participants can complete all three to receive the prestigious joint Yale School of Management-EDHEC-Risk Certificate in Risk and Investment Management.
This event will explore the growing litigation finance market, and associated investment opportunities. Speakers will include practitioners, i.e. investment managers, who provide litigation funding, LP investors and attorneys. Discussion will cover the origins of the litigation finance market, the size of the opportunity and various market dynamics. What makes a good case, what makes a bad case, and importantly what are the ethical considerations that investors and practitioners need to be aware of. Topics will also explore how investment opportunities become available across antitrust, fraud, contract disputes, IP theft cases and beyond, and provide insight on how are deals structured between key participants: law firms, plaintiffs, defendants and funders.
Asset owners, the first ring in the investment chain, need new asset management approaches when investing in assets offered in Japan, an ultra-aging society under ultra-low interest rates. Thus, this yearʼs Japan Investment Conference will focus solely on investment and welcome large-scale asset owners in and outside of Japan.
