Strategic Management of Investment Organizations

CFA Society New York 1540 Broadway, New York City, NY, United States

How do CEOs and other senior leaders manage their firms, implement business strategy, and think through key strategic challenges? There are no perfect solutions, but there are some time-tested frameworks. CFA Institute and Harvard Business School Investment Management Workshop is designed to explore these issues with global peers, C-level guest speakers, and leading HBS professors. CFA Institute and HBS are pleased to present a panel moderated by George E. Austin, CFA that will bring together HBS Senior Associate Dean, Luis Viceira, and senior industry practitioners from State of Wisconsin Investments Board, Deutsche Asset Management, and Casey Family Programs. All panelists attended the 49th annual Investment Management Workshop in June 2017 and will share how the workshop helped them improve strategic decision making.

2nd Annual Endowment and Foundation Chief Investment Officer Roundtable

CFA Society New York 1540 Broadway, New York City, NY, United States

The 2nd Annual Endowment and Foundation Chief Investment Officer Roundtable will feature a high-level discussion on the implications of current market conditions and within this context, analyze trends in best practices in investment strategy, risk management and market engagement. As Endowments and Foundations are faced with a challenging return environment and higher market volatility, the outlook for future returns seems muted when compared to their impressive record of double digit growth generated in the recent past. Most are responding to the lack of readily evident market opportunities by investing in longer-term opportunities such as alternatives, exploring private markets and turning to strategic partners. According to the latest Nacubo-Commonfund study on endowments, the share of alternatives among endowments with over $1bn has doubled in the last decade. This shift has been marked by innovative portfolio themes in the space that include a focus on uncorrelated investments, tail risk hedges, investing in Venture capital etc. which will be discussed by the CIOs and senior investment managers of major Endowments & Foundations at this evening conference.
