Overview

The CFA Society of New York: Jamaican Investment Forum will feature seasoned investment professionals providing an insider’s view of one of the Caribbean’s most dynamic economies.  Billionaire Entrepreneur Michael Lee-Chin has called Jamaica the “Singapore in the Western Hemisphere.” because of its economic growth and potential.

Jamaica, home to the world’s best performing stock exchange in 2018, had a total gain over five years between 2014 to 2019 of more than 600% — again, the world’s best performance, according to the Financial Times and Bloomberg.  The country has tremendous economic potential buttressed by its educated English-speaking population, proximity and connection to the US, Canadian, and Guyanese economies, and business friendly capital markets that are traditionally not correlated with the US stock market while having more reliable financial market coverage than other emerging market economies.

Our panel of investment professionals will give attendees insight from direct experience with Jamaican Markets regarding the mechanics of investing and balancing unique risk and reward factors.  Attendees will gain an in-depth look at specific Jamaican investment vehicles such as fixed income, private and public equity, and highly structured vehicles such as project finance as well as methods of analyzing and investing in them.  They will also address the opportunities afforded from applying data-driven financial analysis techniques to Jamaican market.

The forum will delve into Jamaican policy reforms, investment incentives and opportunities, such as NASDAQ and Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) partnership’s fit within JSE’s five-year strategic plan, JAM-DEX the Jamaican Central Bank Digital Currency, Headquarter Operation Tax Relief, Omnibus Tax Incentives, Junior Stock Market Listing Tax Exemptions, Special Economic Development Zones, Agribusiness, Medical Tourism, Global Digital Services, Energy, Logistics and Infrastructure, Manufacturing, and Mining.
