Business Management
We will focus on the non-portfolio management issues that typically confront the COO and other leaders within a money management firm, such as how to successfully launch and operate a business. These issues include, business planning, enterprise technology, compliance, market trends, human resources, selection of; fund administrators, accountants, lawyers and prime and executing brokers, etc. A key goal of BMIG’s will be to understand the business and other risks associated with running a money management, while serving as a bridge between the “buy” and “sell” sides.
Career Development
The Career Development Group develops programs to help members excel during all stages of their careers and adjust to changes in the financial industry. Through events like the monthly Career Chat, the Career Development group helps members meet fellow professionals and learn helpful tools for enhancing individual careers. Group programs explore the widely varied career choices within the financial services industry.
Fintech
The mission of the Fintech Thought Group is to provide information and insight to keep members abreast of innovation and technology that will impact their business. Fintech is the technology that is driving the transformation of the financial services industry. From digital advice and blockchain to alternative data and artificial intelligence, the group’s goal to ensure CFANY members have a forward looking perspective. The group will:
- Develop programs and other initiatives to keep CFANY members informed of cutting edge Fintech innovation relevant to their profession and the financial services industry.
- Collaborate with other CFANY thought leaderships groups, the CFAI and other stakeholders to address Fintech related issues impactful to members of the investment community.
- Facilitate discussion and thought leadership within the committee and by engaging with leaders in the greater FinTech ecosystem.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
The Financial Reporting and Analysis Group follows issues and events affecting financial reporting, corporate disclosure, and accounting standards. Its primary mission is to keep CFANY members informed about these issues. The group also comments on proposed new financial reporting standards (before Regulators and Standard Setters).
Global Investing Group
The Global Investing group organizes a diverse range of programs to keep members abreast of key trends in global investment markets.
Institutional Asset Management
The Institutional Asset Management Group brings together professionals engaged in the management, oversight, and/or advisement of institutional investments. Its diverse member base includes investment consultants, plan sponsors, insurance professionals, risk managers, derivative product specialists, and portfolio managers and analysts in a wide variety of asset classes. The group nurtures a rich exchange of ideas and information by connecting professionals who are broadly in the same field, but would not otherwise collaborate and network with one another.
Private Wealth Management
The Private Wealth Management Thought Leadership Group seeks to enrich and enable finance professionals to meet the modern needs of private clients, and to remain at the forefront of professionalism and knowledge in serving private clients.
Private Wealth Management Group welcomes CFANY members who manage assets for individuals and for themselves. Our group members are creative, well-read, and forward-thinking in our private discussions and in our presentations to the general membership of CFANY. Their professional practices encompass portfolio management, investment research, investment advisory, financial planning, and firm leadership. We focus discussions and meetings on investment strategy, implementation, and communications with the goal of enriching our professional experience and practice.
The Group pursues collaboration with other CFANY groups in programming, especially with the Value Investing and Market Integrity Interest Groups. The group encourages its members to participate in other activities at CFANY, such as volunteering to grade reports, mentoring a university team, or judging the Final Four in the Investment Challenge.
Regulation & Market Integrity
The Regulation and Market Integrity Group focuses on the following areas:
- Regulatory Developments – Review and analyze regulatory changes that affect portfolio management and financial analysis in a practical way so you can benefit and profit.
- Events – Host seminars, workshops and social events to boost information sharing and networking among Committee members and speakers.
- Communication – Advocate on your behalf among the CFA Institute, CFANY and external governing bodies such as the SEC on issues that are important to you.
- Socialize – Make valuable contacts, meet colleagues and friends and have fun!
Sustainable Investing Group
The Sustainable Investing Group provides a forum to advance the dialogue around the role of sustainable investing (SI) in today’s markets. Programs focus on current SI issues, including those related to fiduciary responsibility and risk management. Members seek to identify the challenges and rewards of incorporating environmental, social, and governance factors in security analysis.
Toastmasters
Become the Speaker You Want to Be
Don’t present timid forecasts to CIOs or shy away from telling clients the hard truth: Let CFANY Toastmasters inject confidence and structure into your verbal and written business communication. Participate in our fun and supportive group and gain the skills to make your investment recommendations the ones that get everyone talking!
What’s in it for you?

Don’t worry: Everyone in CFANY Toastmasters started out sweating, mumbling, or with a death grip on the podium. Our program is friendly not faultfinding, and lets you improve at your pace. The secret is practice first, effectiveness later. You will never learn to become a good public speaker from reading “how to” books. But you will love the applause following your speeches at Toastmasters and appreciate the value of constructive feedback.

University Outreach
The University Outreach Group is to provide a forum for students and universities in order to 1) increase CFANY awareness among students and universities by reviewing and recommending a list of targeted universities, 2) improve CFANY membership through students associations and universities and 3) promote the CFA classes at CFANY for students who want to take the CFA exams. Programs include organizing and developing the CFA Institute Research Challenge, Ethics training and GAME.
Value Investing Group
The Value Investing Group provides a forum for the application and modification of Benjamin Graham’s principles in today’s domestic and international markets.
Young Leaders Group
With the launch of the Young Leaders Group in Q4 2016, its committee members are diligently planning their inaugural 2017 calendar of events. The dual mission of the group is to create an ecosystem for CFANY’s millennial generation to develop their professional and leadership skills, and to serve as a platform to amplify the perspective of the newest generation of charterholders.
Veterans Roundtable
The Veterans Committee of CFANY, (a.k.a. Veterans Roundtable) is a special interest group dedicated to supporting prior military service members through professional networking and finance education.
Our mission is to establish the foundations from which military veteran members may better achieve leading positions in the financial world.
We promote CFANY and CFA Institute programs, while also being highly active in NYC regional and national-level veteran clubs and affairs. By being active supporters and participants in other veteran organizations, we are able leverage their networks, and broaden CFANY’s and the CFAI’s reach.
Why have such a group? The ethical standards promoted throughout military services worldwide align with Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Practice of the CFA Institute. Part of what attracts future generations of leaders to the military services is robust support groups that empower access the fullest range of post-military career options, including the highest levels of finance.
Our membership is open to CFANY members, CFA Charterholders, CFA program participants, active duty military service members, and interested persons dedicated to CFAI mission and values.
We aim to meet at least six times a year for meetings/socials, hold a minimum of two CFANY programming events per year, and actively participate in other veteran organizations at least six times per year. We maintain a globally accessible presence and a calendar of events through our website: VETERANSINFINANCE.ORG.
Investment Strategy Roundtable
The CFANY Investment Strategy Roundtable meets monthly to discuss topics important to all market participants. Whether it’s debating the Eurozone sovereign outcome, movements in rates and currency markets, China hard landing fears, or digging into details on volatility strategies and discussing market technicals, you’ll be sure to find a fresh perspective from joining our discussion. Guided by a formal cross-market agenda and slide deck, the group traverses topics from a macro perspective, drilling down into specific areas of interest to our group?s portfolio managers, traders, analysts, and academics. The roundtable’s composition is quite diverse, which ensures a lively interaction that is guaranteed to both educate and challenge you and bring to light myriad useable trading strategies.
Performance & Risk Analytics
The Performance & Risk Analytics Research Group brings together performance measurement professionals engaged in the asset management industry. Its diverse membership consists of, but is not limited to, practitioners from asset management firms, consulting firms, GIPS verification firms, software providers and custodian banks. The group meets on a regular basis to discuss performance and risk-related topics and provides networking and continuing education opportunities through its planned events.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee reviews and approves all prospective member applications and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors as to guidelines for membership. It helps develop and evaluate member benefits, reviews special offers, and looks for new member-recruitment methods. Programs include the Annual Dinner and other member-networking events.
